CDT Central Standard Time, Australia.

CST Central Daylight Savings Time, Australia.

Dew Point (or Dewpoint) The dew point (or dewpoint) is the temperature to which a given parcel of air must be cooled, at constant barometric pressure, for water vapour to condense into water. The dew point will assist you to calculate the likelihood of fog or carburettor icing.

EDT (also known as AEDT) Eastern Daylight Savings Time, Australia.

EST (also known as AEST) Eastern Standard Time, Australia.

Forecast Weather forecasting is the application of science and technology to predict the state of the atmosphere for a future time and a given location. All weather information found on this site has been sourced from The Weather Company and the Australian Bureau of Meteorology.

Frost Point When the dew point temperature falls below freezing it is called the frost point, as the water vapor no longer creates dew but instead creates frost or hoarfrost by deposition.

Humidity Humidity is the amount of water vapour in a sample of air compared to the maximum amount of water vapour the air can hold at any specific temperature.

Jet Stream The shape and path for fast flowing, air currents.

Lightning Lightning is the flash of light accompanying a sudden electrical discharge which takes place from or inside a cloud. This map will show any lightning activity across Australia.

Knots (Kts) A measure of speed through the air. Singular measure is Kt and plural is Kts.

Radar Map Map showing cloud movement, lightning and rainfall.

Satellite Map Photos taken from the weather satellite during its orbit.

Showers Description for rainfall. Eg. Light Rainfall is also known as Light Showers.

Swell This is a wave system raised at some distance away due to winds blowing there, and which has moved to the vicinity of the ship, or to waves raised nearby by winds that have since died away. Swell waves travel out of a stormy or windy area and continue on in the direction of the winds that originally formed them as sea waves.

Synoptic Map This map shows the movement of high and low pressure winds.

Temperature A measure of warmth and coldness. All temperatures found on the weather pages are measured in degrees Celsius. To convert Celsius to Fahrenheit, use the Temperature Convertor Tool (new window) that is available from the Australian Bureau of Meteorology website.

Wind Gusts This is a sudden, brief increase in speed of the wind.

WDT (also known as AWDT) Western Daylight Time, Australia.

WST (also known as AWST) Western Standard Time, Australia.
